SuperLiga was a regional competition featuring four teams from Major League Soccer and four teams from the first division of Mexican soccer. The tournament awarded the largest winner's purse - $1 million - in North American soccer history.

The Dynamo had tremendous success in SuperLiga, participating in three of the first four tournaments, qualifying for the semifinals each time, and reaching the final in 2008. Houston saw tremendous crowds and rivalries grow in games against Mexican teams such as Pachuca, Club América and Chivas de Guadalajara.
