Dash re-sign MF Cece Kizer, who joins Kolbotn IL on loan for the remainder of the year

The Houston Dash and midfielder Cece Kizer have agreed to a new two-year contract that will keep Kizer with the club through the 2022 season, the club announced today. Additionally, the 23-year-old is set to join Kolbotn IL in Norway’s Toppserien on loan through December 2020, both clubs announced.

“I am honored and humbled at the opportunity to spend two more years with the Dash organization. Thank you to the coaches and fans for believing in me,” said Kizer. “Playing abroad is something I’ve always wanted to do and an experience that I’m excited to embrace. It gives me an opportunity to step outside my comfort zone and improve my game.”

Kizer joins Kolbotn IL midway through the Toppserien’s season and will be available to make her debut on Sept. 26 against Trondheims-Orn. On that day, the Dash is back at BBVA for the first time in 2020 as they host Orlando Pride for a Saturday night showdown at 8:30 p.m. CT for the Verizon NWSL Community Shield fall series.

The midfielder played a key role in Houston’s midfield during the team’s run to its first league title this summer when they became NWSL Challenge Cup Champions. Kizer was instrumental in the Challenge Cup Final, coming on for Kristie Mewis in the 29th minute and helping the Dash maintain control of the match over the final 61 minutes en route to the championship.

“This will be a great experience for Cece and will help her continued development,” Dash head coach James Clarkson said.

The midfielder joined the Dash as the 13th overall pick in the 2019 NWSL College Draft after a successful four-year career at the University of Mississippi. She left Ole Miss as the program’s leader in goals with 48 in 83 appearances. The 23-year-old made her NWSL debut on May 19, 2019 against the Chicago Red Stars and started in two of her 16 appearances for the club as a rookie, tallying one assist.
