The Houston Dash are set to begin their title defense as they host the opening match of the 2021 NWSL Challenge Cup presented by Secret Deodorant against former captain Kealia Watt and the Chicago Red Stars this Friday evening, April 9 at 7:30 p.m. CST.

Here are the three key points ahead of tonight’s game:
1. CHALLENGE CUP CHAMPIONSHIP BANNER IS HOME: To honor Houston’s first league championship in the 2020 NWSL Challenge Cup, the club will unveil the first Dash title banner at the top of the South end of BBVA Stadium prior to kickoff. The historic moment will occur just after 7 p.m. CST.
2. DASH BEGIN CHALLENGE CUP DEFENSE: Last year, the Dash brought home the first trophy and title in club history when they defeated the Chicago Red Stars on July 26 becoming the 2020 NWSL Challenge Cup Champions. In the Cup Final at Zions Banks Stadium, Houston put on a lights-out show in the 2-0 victory. Dash midfielder Sophie Schmidt gave Houston the lead when she netted a penalty kick in the first half, and the Dash scored the insurance goal in stoppage time when Championship MVP Shea Groom beat Chicago goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher and defender Sarah Gordon and scored her third goal of the tournament. Tomorrow, Houston and Chicago are set to open the tournament in an exciting rematch at BBVA Stadium.
3. HOUSTON WELCOMES NWSL COMMISSIONER LISA BAIRD: Because the Dash and Chicago are playing the first match of the season, Houston will welcome NWSL Commissioner Lisa Baird to BBVA Stadium.
