The Houston Dynamo selected forward Chandler Hoffman and midfielder Nathan Sturgis in Stage Two of the MLS Re-Entry draft, the club announced today.

Per MLS rules, the Dynamo have seven days to make a genuine offer to the players selected in Stage Two. In the event that an agreement cannot be reached with either of the players, the Dynamo will hold the right of first refusal for that player in MLS.

Hoffman, 24, was drafted by the Philadelphia Union with the No. 13 overall pick in the 2012 SuperDraft. Hoffman made seven appearances in his rookie year and was traded to the LA Galaxy prior to the 2013 season. The forward scored 14 goals in 19 appearances last season while on loan to LA Galaxy II of USL Pro. A native of Birmingham, Alabama, Hoffman played three years at UCLA and was named a MAC Hermann Trophy semifinalist.

Sturgis, 27, is a nine-year MLS veteran. The central midfielder made five MLS appearances for the Dynamo in 2012. Sturgis was the No. 12 overall selection in the 2006 SuperDraft by the LA Galaxy and also made stops at Real Salt Lake, Seattle Sounders FC and Toronto FC before his first stint in Houston. Sturgis was traded to the Colorado Rapids following the 2012 season, and was most recently with Chivas USA. The Boca Raton, Florida, native has made 127 regular season appearances and scored five goals in MLS.
