After a two-match homestand, the Rio Grande Valley FC Toros hit the road for a midweek match when they travel to Nevada on Wednesday to take on Reno 1868 FC at Greater Nevada Field at 9:30 pm CT.

In their last match out, RGV FC fell 1-0 to Austin Bold FC at H-E-B Park in a Copa Tejas matchup on June 23. Despite controlling a majority of the possession during the game, RGV were outshot by Austin 7-2. A 49th minute goal from Austin Bold forward André Lima ultimately gave Austin three points and helped boost the team to the top of the Copa Tejas standings over RGV.

After being kept off the score sheet in his last appearance, forward Carlos Small will look to return to his goal-scoring form. Small served as the lone forward against Austin Bold FC in the absence of Maalique Foster, who remains at the CONCACAF Gold Cup with the Jamaican national team.

Reno 1868 FC are currently riding a two-match winning streak, most recently defeating Sacramento Republic FC 2-0 at home on June 29. After a slow start to their season, Reno are currently second in the Western Conference standings and are 5-1-3 at home this season. In 2018, RGV FC went 0-1-1 against Reno 1868 FC, drawing 0-0 at home on May 2 and falling 4-0 at Greater Nevada Field on September 26.

Reno 1868 FC are powered by forwards Brian Brown and Corey Hertzog, who have combined to score 15 of Reno’s 34 goals this season. Brown is currently ranked sixth in assists across the USL Championship with five, while Hertzog has added four helpers himself. Reno is coached by longtime San Jose Earthquakes assistant Ian Russell, who has served as the team manager since Reno’s inaugural season in 2017.

The match will be streamed live on ESPN+ at 9:30 pm CT.
