The Preview

The Houston Dynamo returns to league play after hosting a midweek clash with Club America in the quarterfinals of the Leagues Cup. Captain DaMarcus Beasley scored his second goal of the year late in the second half to force penalty kicks at BBVA Stadium. The Dynamo fell in penalty kicks after going toe-for-toe with one of the most successful clubs in the region.

The Dynamo made 10 lineup changes for Wednesday’s game and six players return to the fold this weekend after missing the midweek clash. A.J. DeLaGarza, Maynor Figueroa and Kiki Struna return to the Dynamo backline. Houston’s Argentine duo – Tomas Martinez and Matias Vera are available to duel with Uruguayan playmaker Nicolas Lodeiro.  Tommy McNamara and Houston’s leading goal scorer, Mauro Manotas, also return to the Dynamo frontline.

Dynamo forward Alberth Elis returns to league play after serving a one-game suspension. The Honduran international has torched through most of the league but Elis has yet to score on the Sounders. Seattle is one of two Western Conference teams that have managed to evade La Pantera’s tear through MLS.

Houston will aim to go into the All-Star break with a victory – their eighth at BBVA Stadium this season and position themselves in the middle of the playoff race toward the final stretch of the season.  Houston will also enjoy a small window to recover after a grueling stretch that saw the Dynamo play 10 games since June 11, including a three-game cross country road trip.

The Dynamo will remain in Houston after six road matches in a month to host the Chicago Fire after the All-Star break for Military Appreciation Night presented by Houston Audi Dealers.

The Sounders (10-6-5) are looking to bounce back from a 2-1 Cascadia Cup defeat to the Portland Timbers at CenturyLink Field Sunday. Raul Ruidiaz leveled in the 50th minute, but Brian Fernandez put the visitors in front with his second goal of the game just one minute later.
