The Houston Dynamo Academy finished group play at the ICC Futures tournament with a 1-0 victory over ICC East.
The U-14 Dynamo currently sit in second place in Group 1 and finished with five points in group play after defeating Club Deportivo Guadalajara in a penalty shootout yesterday and falling to Real Madrid later that afternoon. Houston will learn their fate later today as group play comes to an end. The group leader and two of the top runner ups will advance to the quarterfinals on Saturday.
Sebastian Alvarez sparked Houston’s only goal of the game as he drew two defenders at the top of the box to create space for Jacob Grossman. The forward controlled the ball near the penalty spot and flicked a shot past the ICC East goalkeeper at the far post for his third goal at the tournament.

The goal came minutes after an ICC East shot bounced off the bottom corner of the Dynamo goal. That was the second fortunate intervention for the Dynamo who also saw a free kick bounce off the crossbar in the opening minutes of the game. Dynamo goalkeeper Kevin Torres finished with a clean sheet – his first of the tournament.
