The road to Tokyo 2020 kicked off this week as eight teams fight for a chance to represent their country come this summer. Four Dash players are participating on the Concacaf Olympic Qualifiers: Defender Allysha Chapman, midfielder Sophie Schmidt and forward Nichelle Prince are qualifying with Canada while forward Kayla McCoy is representing Jamaica.

All four players are in Group B of the tournament which is taking place down at H-E-B Park in Edinburg, Texas. Group B kicked off play yesterday with Canada leading the way in a whopping 11-0 victory over St. Kitts & Nevis. Schmidt played the full 90 in the big victory. Canada made history as forward Christine Sinclair, who plays for Portland Thorns FC in the NWSL, broke the all-time goal scoring record with two goals to put her at 185 goals all time.

Jamaica took the field after to face off against Mexico. Forward Kayla McCoy appeared as a substitution in 70th minute. This is McCoy’s first official match since suffering an ACL injury in early May of 2019. Despite a few opportunities, Jamaica fell 1-0 to Mexico.

Play continues on Saturday, February 1 when Mexico plays against St. Kitts & Nevis and our Dash players face off after in Canada vs. Jamaica. The second game is set to kickoff at 4:30 pm CDT and will be streamed on Fox Sports 2.
