GREELEY, Colo. (Sept. 14, 2025) – Houston Dynamo 2 earned their fourth clean sheet of the season with a 1-0 road victory over Colorado Rapids 2 this afternoon. Houston played the last 55 minutes of the match with 10 men after first-team defender Femi Awodesu received a red card for denying a Colorado goal scoring opportunity. With today’s result, both sides finished the season series with one win, one loss and one draw each.
Goalkeeper and 2025 Goalie Wars winner Pedro Cruz contributed five saves to today’s clean sheet, alongside a strong defensive performance from Houston’s backline, including defender Isaac Mwakutuya. The victory brings Dynamo 2 to just two spots and four points outside the playoff line. Houston now has three regular season matches remaining in their push for the MLS NEXT Pro Playoffs, including two at home and one on the road.
Dynamo 2 took the lead in the 12th minute when a corner delivery from midfielder Mattheo Dimareli resulted in an own goal after a clearance attempt by Colorado defender Billo Diop found the back of the net.
Cruz was called into action in the sixth minute when the Brazilian reacted quickly to deny a right-footed shot from Sydney Wathuta.
Cruz delivered another key save in the 21st minute, diving to his right to secure a low-driven shot from Sam Bassett.
Forward Tomás Romero had a chance on goal in the 38th minute after receiving a pass in the center of the box. He forced goalkeeper Adam Beaudry to make a diving save, with a shot towards the bottom left corner.
Dimareli delivered another dangerous scoring opportunity in the 55th minute when the young midfielder dribbled past a few Colorado defenders into the box and fired a right-footed shot towards goal that found the hands of Beaudry.
Cruz was called into action again in the 64th minute, making another crucial stop as he came off his line to deny Diop’s strike in a one-on-one situation at the center of the box.
