Houston Dynamo 2 signed defender Micael Dos Santos Silva to an MLS NEXT Pro Professional Contract, the club announced today. The 21-year-old center back joins Houston from Brazilian Série A side Atlético Mineiro.

“We believe that Micael’s presence will be a tremendous asset to the entire organization,” Houston Dynamo FC assistant general manager and director of player operations Nick Kowba said. “Through the early part of the season, we have already seen the ways that Dynamo 2 can help push the first team to success, as demonstrated by Ethan Bartlow’s recent play at center back after beginning the season in MLS NEXT Pro and Beto’s Avila’s game winning assist in the US Open Cup against RGVFC. Micael has proven himself to be a winner at some of the highest levels in Brazilian soccer and we are confident that he will continue to do so in Houston.”

The 21-year-old began his youth career with Inter de Limeira, where he played until 2019, when he joined Independente de Limeira. He eventually caught the attention of first division team Atlético Mineiro, where he featured for both the club’s first team and U-20 side. In addition to the two appearances he made in the Brazilian Série A, he also helped lead the club to the 2020 Campeonato Brasileiro U-20 title.

Micael joins a Dynamo 2 team that has started the season 5-0-0 with three clean sheets and currently sits at the top of the MLS NEXT Pro table.
