HOUSTON (Aug. 21, 2026) – Houston Dynamo 2 acquired defender Chibuike Ukaegbu on a full transfer from Sacramento Republic FC in the USL Championship, both clubs announced today. The U.S. Youth National Team player is signed to an MLS NEXT Pro contract through the 2027-28 season.

Ukaegbu kicked off his professional career with Republic FC after signing his first professional contract out of the club's academy in November 2023. The young defender made his professional debut and start during Open Cup play on May 7, 2024, helping Republic FC to a 2-0 clean sheet victory versus USL Championship side Monterey Bay FC. Ukaegbu then made his USL Championship debut later that year on Aug. 3 against Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC.
The 19-year-old totaled 46 appearances with Republic FC and helped them record 19 clean sheets during his time with the club. Ukaegbu played a key role in helping Republic FC reach the playoffs in each of his first two seasons, as the team finished fifth in 2024 and second in 2025 in the Western Conference. Additionally, he helped the team reach the 2024 Open Cup quarterfinals after defeating MLS side the San Jose Earthquakes, as well as reach the 2025 USL Cup final.
At the international level, Ukaegbu has represented the United States at the U-17, U-19 and U-20 levels. Most recently, he was called up to a U-19 U.S. Men's National Team training camp in November 2025.
