Houston Dynamo 2 to face Tacoma Defiance in opening round of MLS NEXT Pro Playoffs

HOUSTON (Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2023) - MLS NEXT Pro announced today the matchups for the opening round of the 2023 MLS NEXT Pro playoffs. As part of the new postseason format, which included a “pick-your-opponent" structure for the first two rounds, No. 7 seeded Houston Dynamo 2 was selected by No. 2 seeded Tacoma Defiance.
The two teams will face off on Sunday, October 1 at Starfire Sports Complex Tukwila, Wash. Kickoff is slated for 9 p.m. CT and the game will stream live on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV.
Houston advanced to its second consecutive playoff appearance after defeating LA Galaxy II 2-1 on Sunday, Sept. 25 at Dignity Health Sports Complex. Forward Papa Ndoye scored his career-high 14th regular season goal in the 23rdminute. Dynamo captain Talen Maples scored the game-winning goal in the 71st minute to put Dynamo Dos back in the lead after Galaxy II had scored. The roster featured 10 players from the Dynamo Academy and seven academy products featured in the decisive game to clinch a berth in the postseason.
Sunday’s game will mark a rematch of last season’s first round playoff match between the two sides that ended in a penalty shootout victory for Tacoma.
