LAWRENCE, KS. (June 7, 2024) – The Houston Dynamo 2 has now earned back-to-back points on the road following tonight’s 2-2 draw with Sporting KC II at Rock Chalk Park in Kansas.

Sylla gave Houston the lead in the 71st minute to complete his first brace at the professional level. Houston Dynamo Academy alum Sebastian Rodriguez forced a turnover in Kansas City’s half of the field that led to the opportunity in transition. Three Dynamo 2 players combined on the left flank to create space for Sylla to take the shot from the heart of the box and score his fifth goal of the season.

SKC II equalized in the 86th minute following a corner kick delivered by Ethan Bryant. Maouloune Goumballe was able to get the loose ball into the back of the net to force a shootout.

SKC II nearly equalized in the 18th minute after forward Kamron Habibullah and Cruz linked up for a one-two sequence. The effort was thwarted by Dynamo Dos defender Kieran Sargeant, who challenged for the ball and to quell the SKC II threat.

Houston nearly regained the lead six minutes later when Sylla dribble past a pair of Sporting defenders, who resorted to fouling the Clemson University product. Dynamo 2 captain Diego Gonzalez took the ensuing free kick but the ball was cleared by the Kansas City backline.

Houston Dynamo Academy player Maddox Findlay, who entered the match as a second-half substitute, made an immediate impact in the 47th minute. Sylla played a perfect ball to Findlay who was making the run alongside the Sporting backline. Findlay’s shot was deflected and went out for a throw in. The Dynamo Academy player has scored two goals for the team this season.

Dynamo 2 goalkeeper Nico Hansen was called into action in the 54th minute after Johann Ortiz forced a save at the near post. Hansen finished with two saves in the draw.
