Houston Dynamo 2 goalkeeper Pedro Cruz named MLS NEXT Pro Goalkeeper of the Month

HOUSTON (May 1, 2025) – Houston Dynamo 2 goalkeeper Pedro Cruz was named the MLS NEXT Pro Goalkeeper of the Month for April, the league announced today.

The Brazilian shot stopper appeared in all three matches during April, helping lead the team to a three-game unbeaten streak. Over those matches, Cruz recorded 14 saves, posted an 87.5 save percentage and allowed only two goals. He also helped the team earn their first clean sheet of the season behind six saves in a 1-0 victory over LAFC2 on April 6. Notably, Cruz is tied for second in the league with 24 saves.

Cruz made his Dynamo Dos debut in the team’s home opener against Sporting Kansas City II on March 8, kicking off his MLSNP career with six saves. Notably, the young goalkeeper has been called up to the first team twice on short-term loans this season for matches versus LAFC and the Portland Timbers, where he was available on the bench.

Dynamo 2 currently sit at the top of the Western Conference standings with 15 points and a 5-2-0 (WLD) record. The team ranks fourth in the league for most goals scored (15) this season.

The 21-year-old joined Dynamo 2 on a full transfer ahead of the 2025 season from Futebol Clube Ska Brasil, where he spent two seasons with Ska Brasil and on loan with Brazilian Séria A side Esporte Clube Bahia. In 2023, Cruz made 13 appearances and recorded four clean sheets at the U-20 level with Ska Brasil and in 2024, he made 23 appearances with Bahia’s U-20 team, including both legs of the Campeonato Baiano U-20 final against Clube Vitória. Notably, the goalkeeper also made his professional debut with Bahia’s first team on March 27, 2024, in a Copa do Nordeste match versus Botafogo Futebol Clube.
