HOUSTON (Aug. 7, 2025) –Houston Dynamo 2 signed defender Nicolás "Nico" Ramos on loan for the 2025 MLS NEXT Pro season with an option to buy from Club Nacional de Football in Uruguay, both clubs announced today.
“Nico is a top rising young talent in Uruguay from one of South America’s best academies at Club Nacional de Football,” said Dynamo Assistant General Manager Nick Kowba. “The defender has also proven himself at the youth international level, bringing experience with Uruguay’s U-20 national team and most recently competing at this year’s South American U-20 Championship in Venezuela. We are excited to add another talented South American prospect into our youth pathway in Houston.”
Ramos joins Dynamo Dos after rising through the ranks of Nacional’s academy, Canteral Inagotable, before making his professional debut with the first team in January 2024 versus Colo-Colo in Chile in the Copa Gustavo Biscayzacú. The 20-year-old has gone on to make two more first team appearances, starting and winning both matches versus Selección de Soriano in March 2025 and Campana de Libertad in May 2025.
Additionally, Ramos spent the 2024 season on loan in Uruguay’s second division with C.A. Rentistas, where he totaled 24 appearances, recording one assist and helping the team earn nine clean sheets during his time on the pitch.
On the international stage, Ramos has made eight appearances for the U-20 Uruguay national team and has scored one goal. Most recently, the defender started two matches at this year’s South American U-20 Championship to help Uruguay finish at the top of their group.
