KANSAS CITY (April 26, 2026) – Houston Dynamo 2 bested Sporting KC II on the road on Sunday afternoon by a 2-1 score, moving into sole possession of first place in the MLS NEXT Pro Western Conference with 20 points on the season.
Dos started the scoring early, as Austin Brummett took a low feed from Matthew Arana off a turnover created by the high press. Brummett- the 78th pick in the 2026 MLS SuperDraft slotted home first-time for a one-goal lead on the road in just the sixth minute.
Nine minutes later, Dynamo 2 goalkeeper Pedro Cruz made two terrific saves to retain the lead. The initial save for the reigning MLS NEXT Pro player of the week was a diving parry away of a curling effort from the top of the box. The rebound was played back in, allowing an SKCII attacker to quickly hit an overhead shot at goal, which Cruz handled to keep Dos on top.
Brummett doubled his tally and the Dynamo 2 advantage in the 20th minute. A low cross from the right side bounced off the turf and met the diving head of the UConn product for the brace and a two-goal advantage just 20 minutes into the match – his third goal of the season.
Late on, SKCII got in behind the defense, looking to pull one goal back from their two-goal deficit. Once again, Cruz made a terrific low diving stop to maintain the clean sheet.
SKCII would get on the board in second half stoppage, but one goal would be all they would manage, as Dynamo 2 move into sole possession of first place in the MLS NEXT Pro Western Conference with the 2-1 victory.
Houston next travels to face Colorado Rapids 2 on Sunday, May 3, at the University of Denver Soccer Stadium, with kickoff scheduled for 7:00 p.m. CT.
