HOUSTON (Oct. 4, 2025) – Houston Dynamo 2 look to clinch a playoff berth on Decision Day as they travel to face Tacoma Defiance on Sunday, Oct. 5, at Starfire Sports Complex. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. CT, and fans can follow the action live via MLS Season Pass on Apple TV.
Houston currently sits two spots below the playoff line but can still secure their place in the 2025 MLS NEXT Pro Playoffs this Sunday. The scenario listed below outlines how Dynamo Dos can reach the postseason:

The team has already qualified for the postseason in three consecutive seasons and will be aiming for a fourth straight appearance under this year’s new Dynamo 2 head coach, Marcelo Santos.
Last season, Dynamo Dos clinched their spot in the playoffs on Decision Day, earning a 3-1 home victory versus Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2, powered by goals from midfielder Diego Gonzalez, first-team forward Gabe Segal and former Dynamo 2 player Isaiah Reid. In the opening round of the playoffs, the team faced third-seeded The Town FC, narrowly falling 2-1 in a closely contested match.
This year, Dynamo 2 currently sit 10th in the Western Conference with 37 points and a 9-12-6 (WLD) record.
Houston is coming off a 3-1 home victory over Portland Timbers2 on Sept. 21, behind goals from defenders Juan Viveros and Omar Flores, and midfielder Mattheo Dimareli. Goalkeeper and 2025 Goalie Wars winner Pedro Cruz finished the night with three saves, and notably, he currently sits third in the league with 96 saves.
Three Academy players that play on Dynamo 2 will report to training camp with the U.S. Youth National Team next week. Defender Micah Harris was called up to join the U-17 Men’s National Team for their final training camp ahead of the 2025 FIFA U-17 World Cup in November, while defender Daniel Barrett and Dimareli join a different U-17 squad for training camp in Spain.
Tacoma has won one and lost one since first facing Dynamo 2 this season on Sept. 17. Most recently, the team is coming off a 1-0 victory, with Charlie Gaffney scoring the game’s lone goal. Tacoma is currently eliminated for the playoffs, sitting 12th in the Western Conference with 33 points and a 9-14-4 (WLD) record. Yu Tsukanome leads the team’s attack with 16 goals, while Peter Kingston leads the team in distribution with six assists.
