HOUSTON (Sept. 20, 2025) – Houston Dynamo 2 close a two-match homestand on Sunday, Sept. 21, at 7:00 p.m. CT, hosting Portland Timbers2 at SaberCats Stadium. The match is the first and only meeting between the two sides this season and serves as Houston’s final home game of the regular season. Fans can claim free tickets to the match HERE.

Houston enters Sunday’s match 10th in the Western Conference with 34 points and a 8-12-6 (WLD) record. They have two matches remaining in their push for the MLS NEXT Pro Playoffs, including one at home and one on the road.

Dynamo 2 is coming off a 2-1 defeat to Tacoma Defiance in a hard-fought match that saw several dangerous chances in the second half for Dos. Despite the result, the match saw Dynamo Academy midfielder Matthew Arana make his first professional start after debuting at 14 years, 10 months and 28 days old on July 25, making him the second-youngest player to appear for Dynamo Dos this season. Houston’s lone goal came in the 29th minute when Arana, working near the end line, slipped a ball to midfielder Noah Betancourt at the near post for a right-footed finish. Betancourt, who signed with Dos on Sept. 3, scored his first professional goal on the play, while Arana recorded his first professional assist.

Betancourt joined Dynamo 2 directly from the Dynamo Academy, becoming the eighth Academy player in Club history to sign a professional contract with Dos, and notably, was one of 11 Academy players who have made their professional debuts this year.

Portland is coming off a 5-3 home victory against LAFC2 on Sept. 14. After falling behind 2-0, Gage Guerra put Timbers2 on the board in the 26th minute and went on to record a brace along with Daniel Nuñez. Ian Smith also added a goal in the 64th minute. Timbers2 currently sit 12th in the Western Conference with 32 points and a 8-11-6 (WLD) record. Guerra leads the team’s attack with 11 goals, while Kyle Linhares leads the team in distribution with five assists, followed by Guerra with four.

Like last season, the teams will meet only once, with their most recent matchup taking place on May 31, 2024, when Dynamo 2 played Portland to a 1-1 draw at Providence Park before the hosts claimed the extra point in the ensuing penalty shootout. First-team forward Gabe Segal scored the equalizer in the 27th minute.

Dynamo 2 next travel to face Tacoma Defiance on Sunday, Oct. 5, on Decision Day, with kickoff scheduled for 3:00 p.m. CT at Starfire Sports Complex. Fans can tune in to the live action via MLS Season Pass on Apple TV.
