HOUSTON (Aug. 22, 2025) – Houston Dynamo 2 fell 1-0 to The Town FC in a tightly contested match at SaberCats Stadium tonight, despite a flurry of attacking chances for Dos in the second half.
Houston has five regular season matches remaining in their push for the MLS NEXT Pro playoffs, including three at home and two road matches.
Town FC scored the only goal of the match in the 56th minute when Nonso Adimabua found Nick Fernandez in the center of the box, where he finished towards the bottom right corner.
Dos’ first dangerous chance of the night came in the 33rd minute, when midfielder Josh Bolma curled a free kick toward the far post from the top of the box, but goalkeeper Francesco Montali dove to his left to deny the shot near the top corner.
Goalkeeper Pedro Cruz was called into action in the 42nd minute, reading the visitor’s counterattack and positioning himself perfectly to stop Missael Rodríguez’s low shot towards the bottom-left corner.
Houston appeared to level the match in the 52nd minute when midfielder Lionel Gitau carried the ball up the far left side from the center line to the top of the box and played a pass to midfielder Mattheo Dimareli, who chipped it into the center of the box for forward Tomás Romero. Romero tucked a right-footed shot into the bottom left corner, but the goal was overturned after he was deemed to be offside.
Notably, Dynamo Academy midfielder Matthew Arana made his third professional appearance in the 71st minute. The midfielder, who made his professional debut on July 25, became the second-youngest player to debut for Dynamo Dos this season at just 14 years, 10 months and 28 days old.
In the 80th minute, defender Juan Viveros sent a cross in from the right flank to midfielder Noah Betancourt, who controlled it at the top of the box and slipped a ball through a crowded defense to forward Stephen Annor for a right-footed shot towards the near post, but Montali made the save.
Just three minutes later, Dos continued to press, as Arana whipped in a corner that found defender Nicolás “Nico” Ramos rising in a congested area, but his header was collected by Montali.
Houston's final chance came in the 86th minute, when midfielder Sebastián Rodríguez fired a right-footed shot from well outside the box, but Montali dove to his right to stop the low-driven effort.
