HOUSTON (Sept. 4, 2026) – Houston Dynamo 2 fell 2-0 to Austin FC II at SaberCats Stadium earlier this evening.
Tonight's match saw midfielder Gilberto Rivera return to orange after Dynamo 2 recalled him from his loan to Phoenix Rising FC in the USL Championship. It also saw Dynamo Academy player Christopher Gonzalezmake his professional debut in the 86th minute.
Austin took the lead early in the second minute when Erick Feliciano connected on a loose ball inside the box and found the bottom right corner. Patrick Gryczewski then extended Austin's lead in the 75th minute with a finish inside the box.
Houston forced a dangerous chance in the 18th minute when midfielder Gustavo Dohmann nearly capitalized on an Austin error inside the box, but Dohmann's shot was instead denied by goalkeeper Charlie Farar.
Rivera tried his luck from long range in the 34th minute with a powerful low-driven shot that forced Farar to make a diving save to his right.
Dynamo 2 nearly leveled the match in the 40th minute when striker Austin Brummett's penalty kick was saved in the bottom right corner. The penalty was awarded after Patrick Cayelli was deemed to have fouled Brummett inside the box.
Goalkeeper Logan Erb was called into action in the 64th minute, denying a crucial one-on-one against Stefan Dobrijevic. The shot stopper finished the night with two saves.
Houston continued to push offensively, with Rivera creating an opportunity in the 79th minute when he found defender Chibuike Ukaegbu in the box for a right-footed shot that missed the far post by inches.
