HOUSTON (Sept. 3, 2026) – Houston Dynamo 2 have recalled midfielder Gilberto Rivera from his loan to Phoenix Rising FC, both teams announced today. As part of the original loan agreement, the Dynamo retained the right to recall the midfielder at any time.
Rivera recorded 12 appearances with the USL Championship club, including two starts in Group 2 of the USL Cup versus Orange County SC on May 5 and USL League One side AV Alta FC on July 11.
Before his loan, the midfielder totaled eight appearances for Dos this season, recording two goals and one assist to help Dos stay near the top spot of the Western Conference.
The 21-year-old midfielder was drafted by Houston Dynamo FC with the 88th overall pick in the 2026 MLS SuperDraft out of San Jose State University, where he concluded his junior season with 52 appearances, three goals and 10 assists. Rivera later signed with Dynamo 2 in February and has totaled eight appearances, two goals and one assist for Dos since then.
While fielding one of the youngest rosters in the league over the past three seasons, Dynamo 2 are currently in the midst of a strong campaign, already clinching their place in the MLS NEXT Pro 2026 Playoffs and currently sitting third in the Western Conference with a 13-6-5 (WLD) record on 48 points.
