Celebrate Juneteenth with the Dash and Dynamo
More than two years after President Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation into existence, Union soldiers arrived in Galveston with the news that the more than 250,000 enslaved African Americans in the state were free.
That day, June 19, 1865 which would become known as Juneteenth, holds great significance in American history. Today, we observe Juneteenth as a celebration of the historical day honoring the resilience, perseverance, and continued fight for equality by Black Americans.
