Dynamo Academy goalkeeper Johan Welch starts first two games for Trinidad & Tobago at CONCACAF U-20 championships

Houston Dynamo Academy goalkeeper Johan Welch has started the first two games for the Trinidad & Tobago national team at the CONCACAF Under-20 championships in Jamaica. The Soca Warriors opened the group stage with a 2-2 draw with Jamaica on Saturday before rolling to a 5-1 win over Aruba on Sunday. T&T will next face Guatemala on Wednesday before rounding out the group stage against Panama (Sunday) and the United States (Jan. 21).

Welch, 18, is member of the Dynamo Academy U-18s, currently 8-1-1 on the season and in first place in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy's Central Conference Frontier Division. Welch has started four of ten games this season while competing for playing time with goalkeeper Andy Rios.


After the winter break, the Academy U-18s resume USSDA league play on Saturday at 2 p.m. against Sporting Kansas City at Houston Sports Park. Admission is free to the public.
