Recap: Houston Dynamo 0, San Jose Earthquakes 1

The Houston Dynamo created several solid scoring chances but were unable to convert, and fell just short in a 1-0 loss to the San Jose Earthquakes on Saturday night at Avaya Stadium. San Jose scored the lone goal in the 33 minute through midfielder Danny Hoesen.

Hoesen’s goal came off of an assist from defender Kofi Sarkodie. Sarkodie crossed the ball into the box to Hoesen, who spun around Dynamo defender Adolfo Machado for a shot resulting in the game’s only goal.

The Dynamo had the first dangerous scoring opportunity in the second minute when forward Erick Torres had a shot on goal, but San Jose goalkeeper Andrew Tarbell was well-positioned for the save. Houston threatened again in the 35th minute when midfielder Tomás Martínez was fouled by Sarkodie just outside of the penalty area, but forward Romell Quioto’s free kick went just over the crossbar. The Dynamo had two more opportunities in the first half, each going just wide of the goal.

In the 61st minute, forward Alberth Elis worked free for a  shot that went just wide of the goal; and in the 63rd minute a shot by Erick Torres bounced off the post.

Tyler Deric kept the Dynamo in it with a big save in the 76th minute stopping a parrying San Jose shot over the crossbar and deny the Quakes a second goal.

The Dynamo will continue the 2017 season, presented by 76, on Saturday, September 23 at 6:30 p.m. CDT against New York City FC in Pratt & Whitney Stadium at Rentschler Field in East Hartford, CT.
