KANSAS CITY, Kan. (July 31, 2026) – Houston Dynamo 2 fell 3-2 on the road to
Sporting Kansas City Il earlier this evening. Forwards Arthur Sousa and Austin
Brummett were Houston's goalscorers, with Sousa tallying his third goal in five
matches and Brummett his ninth of the season. Notably, Dynamo 2 wrapped up the month of July with a 3-1-1 (WLD) record, including a three-match winning streak to begin the month.
Houston played with 10 men for 66 minutes after defender Daniel Barrett received his
second yellow card in the 24th minute mark.
Dynamo 2 took the lead in the 19th minute after capitalizing on a Kansas City error, with Sousa netting his fifth goal of the season. Sporting goalkeeper Jack Kortkamp was forced into giving the ball away by Houston’s high press, allowing midfielder Gustavo Dohmann to intercept the pass inside the box and set up Sousa, who found back of the net with a right-footed blast. The play also marked Dohmann’s second assist of the season.Kansas City leveled the match in the 43rd minute after Kashan Hines found the back of the net inside the box, following a pass from Blaine Mabie.
The host then took the lead in the 71st minute when Hines retrieved the ball at the top of the box and scored his second goal of the night with a left-footed strike.
SKCII extended their lead in the 77th minute after Missael Rodriguez dribbled into the
box and found the far post.
Brummett pulled one back for Dynamo 2 in the 79th minute, converting from the penalty spot. The penalty was awarded after Pierre Lurot fouled the American attacker inside the box.
Houston's first shot dangerous chance came in the 18th minute when attacker Samir Mohammaddribbled into the box from the left flank and fired a left-footed shot that forced a diving save from Kortkamp.
Brummett found midfielder Noah Betancourt at the far post in the 21st minute for a header that found the hands of the Kansas City’s goalkeeper.
Goalkeeper Logan Erb was called into action in the 25th minute when the American reacted quickly to deny a close range shot from Daniel Russo, following a headed pass from Mitch Ferguson. Erb finished the night with a career high of 10 saves.
Erb was called into action again in the 47th minute when Sam Worcester fired a left-
footed shot while on a run toward goal, but the Dynamo 2 goalkeeper got in front of the
effort and blocked it away.
Midfielder D'Alessandro Herrera tried his luck from outside the box in the 53rd minute
with a right-footed shot that forced Kortkamp to get low for the save.
