HOUSTON (July 5, 2026) – Houston Dynamo 2 return home to open a four-match homestand on Sunday, July 5, when they host Minnesota United FC 2 at Shell Energy Stadium, marking the team’s first home game since March after a league-record 10-match road stretch. Following the match, the Club will host “Noche de México” Soccer Celebration, presented by Kroger, which will feature another official live viewing for the Mexico National Team’s FIFA World Cup 2026™ Round of 16 match versus England, in partnership with the Federación Mexicana de Fútbol, with kickoff scheduled for 7:00 p.m. CT. Notably, two Dynamo players, Mexican international legend Héctor Herrera and youth Mexican international Matthew Arana will be onsite for a meet-and-greet with fans in the Regions Bank Club starting at 5:45 p.m. CT. Sunday’s fixture marks the second of three meetings between the two sides this season, with Dynamo 2 playing MNUFC2 to a 1-1 draw before claiming the two points following a penalty shootout victory in May, marking the team’s second shootout win of the year. Forward Austin Brummett scored the equalizer in the 47th minute, while goalkeeper Pedro Cruz made three crucial saves in the shootout, including stops on Minnesota’s first two attempts. Notably, Dos holds the upper hand in the all-time series against Minnesota with six wins, four draws and two losses.
Houston opened the 2026 season with a team-record 11-match unbeaten streak, where they recorded 31 points, 28 goals and 20 assists, while leading in fewest goals conceded in open play (four) during that span.
Dynamo 2 is coming off just their third defeat of the season, falling 3-1 on the road to LAFC2. Midfielder Gustavo Dohmann scored Houston’s lone goal, while forward Alan Martins and Dynamo Academy midfielder Dylan Reyes made their first professional starts.
Dynamo 2 currently sits second in the Western Conference standings with a 9-3-2 (WLD) record. Individually, Cruz is tied for second in the league in clean sheets (five) and ranks third with 48 saves, while Brummett is tied for fifth in goals scored (seven). Striker Arthur Sousa leads Dynamo 2 with three assists.
Minnesota is coming off a 2-2 draw with the Tacoma Defiance and won the ensuing penalty shootout to end the month, closing June with a 2-2-1 (WLD) record and currently sits seventh in the Western Conference with 26 points and a 7-7-3 (WLD) overall record. Individually, Marcus Caldeira leads the attack with 10 goals.
Notably, first team midfielder Matthew Arana and Dynamo Academy defender Brogan Fitzsimons were selected to represent the Club at the 2026 MLS NEXT All-Star Game, presented by Allstate, on Monday, July 27, at Mecklenburg County Sportsplex in Matthews, NC. Arana signed a Homegrown contract with the first team in February this year, while Fitzsimons plays with the Academy’s U-18s at the age of 15.
