The Houston Dash earned a massive point on the road in Chicago as the NWSL playoff race heats up. Going into the match, Houston and Chicago had identical records right down to the number of wins, losses and draws on the season so far. Earning points out of this matchup was vital for both sides.

The Chicago Red Stars also celebrated Hispanic Heritage Night while the Dash were in town, with fans coming near and far to celebrate the event. There were also family members in town for players from the area, cheering on the Dash despite being far from Houston.

Ebony Salmon scored her ninth goal of the season in the 25th minute to give Houston the 1-0 lead. Maria Sanchez flicked on a long ball from Jane Campbell to Nichelle Prince, who ran onto the ball down the right flank before finding Salmon, who was running into the box. Salmon took two touches before striking the ball into the far corner of the net for Houston’s first goal of the night.

The remainder of the match continued to be a battle, with the Houston Dash defense being put on display. Campbell was only forced to make one save in 77th minute when Chicago forward Mallory Pugh found space for a shot from 20 yards.

There were a chances exchanged by both sides throughout the 90 minutes, but Salmon's goal proved to be the game-winner that solidified Houston's first win in Chicago.

It was Houston’s ninth win of the year, matching the team single-season record set in 2018, and the team-best sixth road win of the season. The Dash are currently second in the NWSL standings and are one match away from clinching their first-ever playoff berth.
