The Houston Dash beat Pumas UNAM Femenil 1-0 in an international friendly on Wednesday morning in Mexico City.

The Dash, who are currently in the NWSL preseason, got off to a hot start after Argentinian forward Paulina Gramaglia had a shot just missed the right post in the early minutes of the match.

Later in the first half, Dash goalkeeper Ella Dederick made a crucial save in the 38th minute to keep the scored even at 0-0 after Pumas’ Stephanie Ribeiro took a shot from almost 40 yards. Two minutes later, Pumas had another look that sailed to the right of the goal.

Houston took the lead the 86th minute when defender Annika Schmidt scored a header off a free kick off the foot of forward Maria Sanchez. Houston was awarded the free kick after captain Rachel Daly was fouled and Pumas’ Marylin Díaz was given a yellow card.

The Dash will return to training on Monday at Houston Sports Park as they prepare for the opening game of the NWSL Challenge Cup on March 20 against the Chicago Red Stars. For more information on how to attend, visit HoustonDynamoFC.com/Tickets.
