HOUSTON (Aug. 1, 2026) – Houston Dash fell 1-0 to Gotham FC earlier this evening at Shell Energy Stadium. Houston generated several scoring opportunities throughout the match and forced six saves, but the visitors capitalized early in the second half to secure all three points.
Tonight's match saw forward Khyah Harper make her Dash debut after entering the match early in the second half against her former club. Houston acquired Harper earlier this week following a trade with Gotham FC, and she created one opportunity against her former team.
Gotham opened the scoring in the 46th minute after a pass from the top of the box found Guro Reiten on the right side of the penalty area. The midfielder played a one-touch pass across goal for forward Sam Kerr, who finished from close range for her second goal of the season.
Houston created the first opportunity of the match in the opening minute following a corner kick. Defender Paige Nielsen collected the rebound outside the box and fired a right-footed effort that rolled just wide of the far post.
The Dash threatened again in the eighth minute after goalkeeper Shelby Hogan played a long ball that was intercepted by forward Kat Rader. The Duke alum quickly found midfielder Kiki Van Zanteninside the box, but Van Zanten's shot was denied by Hogan.
Houston came close to breaking the deadlock in the 12th minute when Rader created space for a shot from the top of the box. Her right-footed effort beat the goalkeeper but struck the left post and stayed out.
Goalkeeper Jane Campbell was called into action in the 14th minute, making a close-range save inside the box to deny Jaedyn Shaw. The Dash captain finished the evening with two saves.
The reigning NWSL champions nearly opened the scoring in the 18th minute after earning a penalty kick following a foul on Jordan Dudley inside the box. Kerr stepped up to take the penalty, but her effort went wide of the target.
Houston threatened again in the 24th minute after midfielder Maggie Graham found space inside the box for a right-footed effort, but Hogan was well positioned to make the save.
Defender Lisa Boattin tested the goalkeeper in the 34th minute with a right-footed effort from distance that just missed the inside of the crossbar. Moments later, the Italian international stepped in front of a long ball intended for Rose Lavelle to regain possession and halt the attack.
Houston nearly found the equalizer in the 51st minute after Boattin played a long ball down the left flank for Rader. Hogan rushed off her line to clear the ball before the rookie could get a touch.
The Dash nearly found the equalizer in the 71st minute after forward Clarissa Larisey dribbled into the box and played a cross toward midfielder Sophie Schmidt. Gotham FC's backline recovered to clear the danger before Schmidt could meet the delivery with a header. Schmidt tested the goalkeeper in the 80th minute with a right-footed effort from distance, but Hogan punched the ball out of play.
Houston's final chance of the night came in the fifth minute of second-half stoppage time after Harper whipped a cross into the box for midfielder Sarah Puntigam. The Austrian international rose to meet the delivery, but Hogan made a diving save to deny the late equalizer.
