The Houston Dash have named sports executive and former NWSL player Alex Singer as the team’s new General Manager, the team announced today. She will officially begin her duties with the Dash on September 6.

With the support of owner Ted Segal and President Jessica O’Neill, Singer will oversee all soccer operations including player personnel and roster management for the team and will work closely with the coaching staff to build and construct the roster.

Singer brings extensive experience and knowledge of the soccer world both as a former professional athlete and sports executive. Over the last five years, Singer managed and represented current professional players, advised top female athletes and media personalities on brand development and marketing partnerships, and was part of the team that negotiated the most lucrative player contract in NWSL history.

"We are excited to welcome Alex to Houston as our first general manager,” O’Neill said. “Adding Alex to our organization is an important step forward as we look to establish sustained success, attract and retain top talent and operate as a best-in-class organization. With a deep passion for the game and unique professional experience across the sports and entertainment industry, Alex's leadership will immediately benefit players, staff and fans.”

Before coming to Houston from Octagon, Singer led strategic operations and management across several departments and was influential in developing the women’s soccer representation efforts at the agency. A proven leader, in her most recent role of Director of Strategic Initiatives for Talent, Singer was instrumental in talent recruitment, negotiating and drafting agreements such as player contracts and endorsements, and managing key partnerships. In addition to supporting both MLS and NWSL athletes on and off the field, Singer was instrumental in building content strategy for soccer media personalities and some of golf’s most notable names, including the most followed female influencers in the sport.

“I am honored to have the opportunity to lead the Dash as the first general manager of the team,” Singer said. “Ted and Jessica have laid out a vision dedicated to driving long-term success and are committed to elevating this club to the next level. I am thrilled to align with the Club’s core values and humbled at the opportunity to return to the league at such a transformational time. I am excited to build on the foundation to become the best women’s soccer club in the world, competing at championship levels for years to come.”

Singer played seven years of professional soccer in some of the top women’s leagues in the world including the NWSL, Germany’s Bundesliga, Australia’s W-League, along with Sweden’s Damllasvenskan and Norway’s Toppserien. In the first Women’s Professional Soccer draft in 2009, Singer was drafted No. 8 overall by the Washington Freedom. She played in the UEFA Champions League while competing in Europe and won the German title with Turbine Potsdam in 2012. The New York City native also coached at Marist College in Poughkeepsie, New York and helped the Red Foxes make their first MAAC Tournament appearance in program history.

Singer earned a Master of Professional Studies in Sports Industry Management degree from Georgetown University in 2017 and played at the University of Virginia, where she earned a bachelor's degree in Kinesiology in 2010.
