The Houston Dash announced today that Sarah Lowdon was named the interim head coach for the remainder of the 2023 season.

“Sarah’s enthusiasm to accept this role exemplifies the selflessness and player-first approach our team needs as we return to league play next week,” Dash general manager, Alex Singer said. “Sarah has proven to be both a leader and a winner. She has served in a similar role before and her growth over the last year will serve her and the team well as we approach the next four games.”

Lowdon served as the acting head coach for the Dash at the start of the 2022 season and finished with a 4-4-3 (WLD) record. The Dash earned their first victory under Lowdon on May 8, 2022, on the road against the Kansas City Current. That would be the start of a six-game unbeaten streak, the longest unbeaten streak in team history. Her final game as the acting head coach was on July 8 on the road against the Orlando Pride.

“I am grateful for the opportunity and look forward to serving the team as we prepare for next Friday’s match against Louisville,” Lowdon said. “This group is special and I truly believe we can disrupt the table as we navigate the next four games. I want to thank our leadership for the support and invite the fans to join us for this pivotal stretch.”

Lowdon was named the first assistant earlier this year following a new contract for the Newcastle, England native. She has prior coaching stops at Penn State, Sam Houston State and the University of Florida. Lowdon holds the USSF A and B licenses plus holds the United Soccer Coaches Premier Diploma and received her certification as a Professional Athlete Development Specialist in 2019. Lowdon is also currently a candidate for the 2023 USSF Pro License.

She served as an instructor at the United Soccer Coaches Convention in 2020 and was a presenter at the event in 2022 and 2023.

The Dash return to league play on Sept. 15 in Kentucky when they face Racing Louisville FC. The team returns to Shell Energy Stadium on Oct. 8 to host Angel City FC for the final home match of the regular season.
