HOUSTON (Sept. 3, 2026) – Houston Dynamo 2 wrap up a two-match homestand on Friday, Sept. 4, hosting in-state rivals Austin FC II at SaberCats Stadium. Kickoff is set for 6:00 p.m. CT, and fans can secure their free tickets for the home match HERE.
Having already clinched an MLS NEXT Pro 2026 Playoffs spot, Dynamo 2 enters the game looking to close the gap on the top two in the Western Conference, as Dos currently sit five points behind second place with a 13-6-5 (W-L-D) record on 48 points. Notably, with a victory or a shootout win, Houston would set a single-season team record for points in a season. The previous record was 49 points during the team's inaugural season in 2022.
Friday's fixture marks the third and final meeting between the two sides this season, with Houston defeating Austin twice in penalty shootouts. Goalkeeper Pedro Cruz, who is currently on loan at USL Championship side El Paso Locomotive FC, played a key role in both shootouts, helping Dos claim the two points in each match.
Dynamo 2 is coming off just their sixth defeat of the season, falling 2-0 to Minnesota United FC 2 on Aug. 30. Despite tonight's result, the team still holds a strong home record of 8-2-2 (W-L-D) and maintains the upper hand in the all-time series against MNUFC2 with a 7-3-4 (W-L-D) record.
Austin is coming off a 2-1 loss at Portland Timbers2 on Aug. 30 and has posted a 3-1-2 (WLD) record since facing Houston on July 26. The team currently sits atop in the Western Conference with a 16-3-6 (WLD) overall record and 56 points.
Dynamo 2 opened the 2026 season with a team-record 11-match unbeaten streak, where they recorded 31 points, 28 goals and 20 assists, while leading in fewest goals conceded in open play (four) during that span. All that was despite a league-record 10-match road trip that stretched from March to July due to DR Congo calling SaberCats home during the FIFA World Cup 2026™.
Houston also opened the season with a team record nine-match unbeaten streak, recording eight victories and one draw. The run included a four-match home winning streak to open the season, as well as a three-match home winning streak to begin July.
Additionally, Aug. 14 marked the first time Houston was held scoreless this campaign, ending a 20-match scoring streak in which the team found the back of the net at least once in every game.
Dos recently acquired defender Davis Bautista on full transfer from Eintracht Frankfurt in the German Bundesliga and signed defender Gabriel William on loan from Ituano FC in Brazil. Bautista joins team with European experience from the Eintracht Frankfurt system, where he recorded 23 appearances for their second team, Eintracht Frankfurt II, in Germany's fourth division, Regionalliga Südwest, across the 2023-24 and 2024-25 seasons. William arrives in Houston with 27 professional appearances and three goals under his belt.
Additionally, Dynamo 2 recalled midfielder Gilberto Rivera from his loan to Phoenix Rising FC in the USL Championship. Before his loan, the midfielder totaled eight appearances for Dos this season, recording two goals and one assist to help Dos stay near the top spot of the Western Conference.
