Having already clinched an MLS NEXT Pro 2026 Playoffs spot, Dynamo 2 enters the fixture looking to break back into the top two of the Western Conference, as they currently sit two points behind second place with a 13-5-5 (WLD) record on 48 points. Notably, Houston has won four of their last seven home matches while losing just once.
Dos holds the upper hand in the all-time series against Minnesota with a 7-2-4 (WLD) record over their Western Conference foes, while Sunday’s match marks the third and final meeting between the two sides this season. In May, Dynamo 2 played MNUFC2 to a 1-1 draw before claiming the two points in a penalty shootout victory, followed by a 4-0 home victory in July. The most recent win versus MNUFC2 was highlighted by two goal contributions from rookie Homegrown defender Reese Miller.
Houston is coming off their fourth penalty shootout victory of the season after playing St. Louis CTY2 to a 2-2 road draw in regulation on Sunday. Goalkeeper Logan Erb delivered back-to-back crucial saves on the third and fourth penalties, while forward Arthur Sousa converted the final penalty kick to secure the shootout victory. Notably, the match saw U.S. Youth National Team defender Chibuike Ukaegbu make his Dynamo 2 debut and his first start in orange after joining the team on a full transfer from USL Championship side Sacramento Republic FC earlier that week.
MNUFC2 are coming off a 1-1 draw at North Texas SC on Saturday and has posted a 1-2-2 (WLD) record since facing Dynamo 2 on July 5. The team currently sits 10th in the Western Conference with an 8-10-5 (WLD) overall record on 31 points. Marcus Caldeira leads the team's attack with 10 goals.
Dynamo 2 opened the 2026 season with a team-record 11-match unbeaten streak, where they recorded 31 points, 28 goals and 20 assists, while leading in fewest goals conceded in open play (four) during that span. All that was despite a league-record 10-match road trip that stretched from March to July due to DR Congo calling SaberCats home during the FIFA World Cup 2026™.
Houston also opened the season with a team record nine-match unbeaten streak, recording eight victories and one draw. The run included a four-match home winning streak to open the season, as well as a three-match home winning streak to begin July.
Additionally, Aug. 14 marked the first time Houston was held scoreless this campaign, ending a 20-match scoring streak in which the team found the back of the net at least once in every game.
Dynamo Academy midfielder Dylan Reyes is currently with the 2010/11's squad in Mexico City to compete in the Torneo 4 Naciones hosted by the Federación Mexicana de Fútbol (FMF). The youngster will then join the Mexico U-16s for international camp on Sept. 1.
