Summer is offseason for most Dynamo Academy teams, but the season’s just getting started for the club’s new U-23 PDL team, Brazos Valley Cavalry FC, and the U-13s took a trip to Canada for an invitational tournament.

The Academy U-13s took part in the International U-14 Tournament in Montreal, finishing in fourth place but taking home the Fair Play Award as the team that showed the most sportsmanship throughout the tournament.

The Dynamo picked up draws against fellow MLS academy teams from Atlanta United and the Montreal Impact but finished with a win Montréal-Nord in the group stages to advance to the semifinals. The Dynamo fell to eventual champions New England Revolution in their semifinal match, then lost to the Chicago Fire in the third place match to close out the weekend.

Brazos Valley picked up a pair of wins over the past week to push their unbeaten streak to four games – with 14 goals scored – and their overall record to 6-4-1. On Wednesday, three second half goals pushed the Cavalry to a 4-1 win over FC Cleburne at Nutrabolt Stadium in Bryan. Robert Hernandez, Matt Dorsey, Christian Molina, and Elo Ozumba were the goalscorers.

BVC FC came back to the Bayou City on Saturday to take on Houston FC at Rice University Soccer Stadium. Ozumba, Aneikan William, and Hernandez pushed Brazos Valley out to a 3-0 lead early in the second half, though Houston FC found a late consolation goal for the final scoreline of 3-1. It was Ozumba’s team-leading seventh goal of the year, coming off a Week 8 PDL Team of the Week nod after his hat trick against Houston FC on June 22.

Brazos Valley is on the road on Independence Day, heading north to face FC Cleburne before returning to Bryan/College Station on Saturday to host Mississippi Brilla FC.
