Houston Dynamo midfielder Boniek García has been called up by Honduras national team head coach Jorge Luis Pinto for next week’s decisive 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches, the team announced today. García will join Honduras on Sunday, following Saturday’s home game vs. FC Dallas.

Honduras (1-2-1; 4 points) is tied for second place in Group A with Canada, but holds the tiebreaker on goal difference (Honduras: -1, Canada -4). The top two teams in each group advance to CONCACAF’s final round of qualifying. Mexico leads Group A with 12 points and has clinched a place in the final round.

Honduras will host Canada on Friday, September 2 at Estadio Olímpico Metropolitano in San Pedro Sula. Los Catrachos finish the round against Mexico on Tuesday, September 6 at Estadio Azteca in Mexico City.

García has 107 caps for Honduras and scored the winning goal in the last qualifying match, a crucial 2-0 victory over El Salvador on March 29. García has appeared in 25 career FIFA World Cup qualifying matches and helped Honduras reach the 2010 and 2014 FIFA World Cups.

García, the 2012 Dynamo Players’ Player of the Year, leads the Dynamo with five assists in 22 appearances this season and has started 13 consecutive games under interim head coach Wade Barrett.
