Dash midfielders Clare Polkinghorne and Kyah Simon named to Australia's Tournament of Nations roster

Houston Dash midfielders Clare Polkinghorne and Kyah Simonwere named to the Australian Women's National Team roster for the Tournament of Nations, the Football Federation Australia announced earlier yesterday. 


Polkinghorne was signed as a discovery player on June 7 and has started five matches since joining the team. The Dash midfielder has scored eight goals in 105appearances for the Westfield Matildas. Polkinghorne has represented Australia at three FIFA Women's World Cups and has served as co-captain throughout her international career. 


Simon joined Houston after recovering from a hamstring injury on April 25 and has scored a goal and tallied an assist in 11 starts for the season. Internationally, the midfielder has scored 22 goals in 83 caps for the Matildas. 


Polkinghorne, Simon and Australia will defend their Tournament of Nation title against the U.S. Women's National Team, Brazil and Japan beginning on July 26 in Kansas City. Australia opens against Brazil, on July 29 the Matildas face the USWNT and close the tournament on Aug. 2 against Japan. 


The midfielders will return to Houston prior to the next match at BBVA Compass Stadium on Aug. 5 as the Dash host Christen Press and Utah Royals FC. Tickets for the match start at $19 and are available at HoustonDashSoccer.com.
