Dash sign Shaina Ashouri & Jaci Jones to a short-term contracts

The Dash have signed forward Shaina Ashouri and midfielderJaci Jonesto short-term contracts, the club announced today. 


Both players will be available to make their NWSL debut on Sept. 26 when the Dash take on Orlando Pride at BBVA Stadium for the second game of the 2020 Verizon NWSL Community Shield in the fall series.

Ashouri finished her collegiate career at the University of Wyoming from 2016-2017 after spending her first two years at the University of Pittsburgh from 2014-2015. At Wyoming, the Colorado native tied the program’s record for total points in a single season and totaled 13 goals and 7 assists. Ashouri also earned First Team All Mountain West and Third Team All Pacific West honors in the NCSAA. 


The24-year-old went on to play for TTI Bluebonnets in the Women’s Professional Soccer League (WPSL) in the 2019 season, scoring two goals and tallying two assists in eight appearances. This year, Ashouri trained and played with Athletic Houston FC, a men’s semi-professional team in the UPSL.

Jones comes into Houston after spending four years on the varsity women’s soccer team at (will graduate this semester)Oklahoma State University, scoring a total of 18 goals and tallying 21 assists in 82 appearances for the Cowgirls, ranking tenth in the country in assists. The Oklahoma native enjoyed a decorated career, earning All Big 12 First Team in 2018 and Big 12 All-Freshman Team honors in 2016.


After being called into Chicago Red Stars’ 2020 preseason, Jones was part of four of the club’s trainings before being forced to go home and stop preseason due to COVID-9.


“Signing with the Dash is an incredible feeling and a lifelong goal achieved. I’m so thankful for the coaching staff and administrators taking the chance on me and giving me an opportunity to play with a club that has had so much recent success,” Jones said. “It is an incredible honor, and I can’t wait to prove myself both on and off the field.”


The Dash will host Orlando Pride for the second match of the 2020 Verizon NWSL Community Shield on Sept. 26 at BBVA Stadium. The match will be the first played at home in 2020. Houston will host North Carolina Courage on Oct. 4 before they close the fall series against the Pride on Oct. 9 at Osceola County Stadium.
