The Honduras national football team is coming to Houston as the leaders of Group A for the 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup, it was announced on Tuesday.

As winners of the 2017 Copa Centroamericana, Honduras joins the United States (Group B) and Mexico (Group C) as seeded teams for the regional championship. Honduras will feature in the Gold Cup opening doubleheader July 7 in the New York-New Jersey area, then head to Texas for group stage matches in Houston (July 11) and Frisco (July 14).

Houston Dynamo season ticket members received an exclusive ticket presale opportunity for this doubleheader. Tickets go on sale to the general public soon. The assigned groups and full schedule will be announced on March 7, during a special event held at Levi’s Stadium.

BBVA Compass Stadium was named as a host site for a Group A doubleheader in December. This marks the third consecutive edition of the tournament in which BBVA Compass Stadium will serve as a host venue for the Gold Cup. Previous editions of the tournament have been held at the stadium in 2013 and 2015.

Honduras played at BBVA Compass Stadium as a member of Group B in the 2013 tournament, losing 2-0 to Trinidad & Tobago. They will face Jamaica at the stadium in a friendly on Thursday, February 16. Tickets are available now.

The Houston Dynamo feature four Honduran players on their roster, three of whom have recently featured for Los Catrachos. Alberth Elis, Boniek García, and Romell Quioto have been included in Honduras' most recent rosters for CONCACAF World Cup qualifying matches in November.
