Houston Dash fall 2-1 to Chicago Red Stars

Two own goals cost the Houston Dash three points against the Chicago Red Stars this afternoon at SeatGeek Stadium.

Dash forward Jasmyne Spencer sparked the opening goal of the game in the 62nd minute with a box-to-box run. The forward was able to slip a pass to forward Veronica Latsko who finished at the far post.

Houston conceded two own goals in the span of three minutes beginning with midfielder Shea Groom in the 73rd minute and defender Katie Naughton three minutes later. Both players attempted to clear the ball inside their own penalty area, but conceded goals to the Red Stars, who finished with no shots on goal today.

The Dash finished with two shots on goal, the first coming in the 13th min when Groom shot in the box forcing a save on Chicago goalkeeper Cassie Miller. In the 20th minute, midfielder Gabby Seiler dribbled towards the box past a Red Stars defender and forced a block. Five minutes later, midfielder Makamae Gomera-Stevens crossed a ball in the box to find Groom, who just missed the inside of the left post by inches.

Houston continued to press, creating chances and attacking through the wings. In the 41st minute, forward Spencer dribbled through the right flank, closing-in on Chicago’s box. She tested her luck on a ball with a tough angle, sending the ball just outside the net.

Houston is back on the road next week when they face North Carolina Courage at WakeMed SoccerPark in Cary. Kickoff is set for 6:00 p.m. CT, and fans can follow the action on Paramount+ and Twitch internationally.
