Houston Dash Tokyo 2020 Round Up: Quarterfinals

The Tokyo 2020 knockout rounds commenced Friday morning on the other side of the world. There was plenty of action in all three matches involving Houston Dash players, including extra time for each match.

Canada opened the Quarterfinals as they took on Brazil in an exciting back and forth match. Forward Nichelle Prince and defender Allysha Chapman started the match. The two sides exchanged multiple chances and looks at goal, but neither could find the back of the net even in extra time, sending the match into penalties. With two big back-to-back saves from Canadian goalkeeper Stephanie Labbe, Canada advanced to the semifinals. Prince logged 63 minutes for Canada while Chapman logged 107 minutes with extra time.

The USWNT wrapped up Quarterfinals with a re-match of the 2019 Women’s World Cup, taking on the Netherlands. Midfielder Kristie Mewis was in the match day 18. Netherlands opened scoring early, but the USWNT was quick to respond with two goals from midfielder Sam Mewis and forward Lynn Williams. The Netherlands would score again though in the 54th minute. The two teams would stay deadlocked through extra time, having to settle their fate through penalties. Goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher came up big with two saves to push the USWNT to the semis.

The USWNT and Canada will meet in the semifinals on Monday, August 2 at 3 a.m. CDT. The match will be broadcast on USA Network and Telemundo. It will also be streamed on NBCOlympics.com
