HOUSTON (Feb. 14, 2024) - Houston Dynamo FC acquired FW Gabe Segal in a trade with New York City FC, both teams announced today. The Dynamo sent a third-round pick in the 2025 MLS SuperDraft in exchange for the 22-year-old forward. Additionally, NYCFC will retain a percentage of a future transfer fee.

"Gabe is a dynamic striker that will give our team additional depth as we navigate one of the busiest campaigns in club history,” Dynamo General Manager Pat Onstad said. “He has demonstrated promise in his young career, and we look forward to his continued development in Houston.”

Segal began the 2023 season with New York City FC, scoring two goals in 10 appearances. He tallied his first MLS goal on the road to secure a point against Orland City SC on May 18. His second goal also secured a point for NYCFC, this time at home against the Columbus Crew on June 17. The forward joined Hapoel Tel Aviv Football Club on loan for the remainder of 2023, but league play in Israel was suspended and both teams reached an agreement to terminate the loan.

The Maryland native began his professional career in Germany with FC Köln in 2022. Segal tallied an assist in 12 appearances for the German club.

Segal is a product of Stanford University and won the 2020 Pac-12 Championship. The forward played in 54 games for the Cardinal, scoring 14 goals and adding five assists. He was named to the All-Pac-12 Second Team in 2020 after he scored six goals, the second highest mark on the team.

The forward has played for U.S. Soccer since 2015 beginning at the U-14 level through the U-18 category. He scored twice against Bulgaria in the 2018 Vaclav Jezek Tournament, ultimately winning the competition.
