HOUSTON (Sept. 26, 2026) – Houston Dynamo FC fell to Sporting Kansas City by a 2-0 score at ShellEnergy Stadium on Saturday night, in a match that saw them reduced to 10 men in the first half.
Notably, the fixture saw Dynamo captain and midfielder Artur make his 150th Dynamo appearance across all competitions, as well as a Dynamo debut for striker Lyle Foster, who came on as a second half substitute. Houston signed the South African international - who represented Bafana Bafana in the 2026 World Cup - on loan in the most recent transfer window, joining from Burnley FC in the EFL Championship.
The Dynamo played the second half with 10 men after midfielder Héctor Herrera was shown a red card in first half stoppage time after he was deemed to have pushed down a Sporting player during a stoppage of play.
Kansas City broke the scoreless affair in the 27th minute when Stephen Afrifa reached a loose ball near the touchline in the box and passed it back to André Luiz, who guided the ball into the back of the net.
Sporting doubled their lead in the last minute of the first half, when Luiz cut into the box from the right side and put a low ball into the six-yard box that found its way into the back of the net off the foot of Calvin Harris.
Houston managed a shot on target in the 31st minute when forward Lawrence Ennali first a low ball into the box from the right side, finding midfielder AgustÃn Bouzat, who fired a first-touch shot that forced a foot save from Sporting goalkeeper Stefan Cleveland.
The Dynamo created another chance in the 34th minute, this time from a corner kick, when attacker Guilherme delivered the ball to Herrera’s head. However, the Mexican international legend’s shot was corralled by Cleveland.
In the 66th minute, Guilherme drew a foul five yards outside the box. The Brazilian took the direct kick on his own, firing on frame. A diving stop from SKC's Stefan Cleveland kept the Houston from halving the lead.
Following the upcoming international break, the Dynamo open a two-match road trip on Saturday, Oct. 10, first visiting Minnesota United FC before facing off against San Diego FC on Wednesday, Oct. 14. Fans can follow both matches live via MLS on Apple TV.
