Houston Dynamo FC signed forward Ifunanyachi Achara for the 2023 season plus a club option for 2024, the Club announced today. The 25-year-old was selected by the Dynamo in Stage 2 of the MLS Re-Entry Draft on Tuesday, Nov. 22.

“Achara is a powerful and fast, young attacker who provides valuable depth across our front line,” said Dynamo general manager Pat Onstad. “As a club, we are looking to add more players with a history of winning trophies, regardless of the level. We were impressed by Achara’s leadership role during a very successful period for the Georgetown Hoyas, including a National Championship in 2019. We look forward to his continued growth as a young professional and expect him to add to our culture and contribute to our attack in 2023.”

The forward made 15 appearances during the 2022 regular season with Toronto FC. Achara scored two goals and tallied an assist in 14 appearances for Toronto in 2021 after returning from injury. The Enugu, Nigeria native was drafted No. 25 overall by Toronto FC in the 2020 MLS SuperDraft. He made his debut with the club during Toronto’s 2020 home opener against New York City FC, scoring the game-winning goal.

Achara played four seasons at Georgetown University and captained the Hoyas to the 2019 NCAA Division I title, when the team finished the season with an overall record of 20-1-3. He finished with 20 goals and seven assists in 47 appearances for the Hoyas.

Achara is the third addition to the Houston Dynamo FC this offseason, who currently have 22 players under contract for the 2023 season.
