HOUSTON (Dec. 18, 2025) – Houston Dynamo FC announced today the signing of defender Reese Miller to a first team contract as a Homegrown Player through 2026 with Club options through the 2028-29 season.

Notably, the Missouri City, TX defender is the 19th Dynamo Academy product to sign as a Homegrown Player with the first team and the seventh signed by President of Soccer Pat Onstad since he took charge of soccer operations in February 2022.

“Reese is a promising young outside back who strengthened his skillset over four years at UVA, one of the country’s top programs, and made his mark at the collegiate level as a standout defender,” said Onstad. “As a Houston native, we are proud that Reese’s foundational years were spent in the Dynamo Academy where he cultivated his consistent opportunities to grow at the next level and chose a fruitful college route to continue his development. We look forward to welcoming him back to his hometown Club as he continues within our player pathway system and want to thank Reese’s parents, Christy and Jim, Eclipse Soccer Club (now RISE SC) and everyone who supported him along his journey to signing a professional contract as we begin preparations for the 2026 season.”

Miller recently completed a four-year career at the University of Virgina, where he made 55 appearances (42 starts) and helped the Cavaliers to eight clean sheets, while recording six goals and five assists. In 2025, the defender helped lead UVA to the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Championship final, where he logged 41 minutes in a tightly contested 1-0 loss to Southern Methodist University. After a season-ending injury in 2024, Miller rejoined the team in early September this year, finishing the 2025 season with 14 appearances, contributing one goal and one assist.

Before committing to UVA, Miller was a standout prospect in the Dynamo Academy, joining at the U-11 level and progressing through the ranks. Ultimately, he featured for Houston Dynamo 2, Houston’s MLS NEXT Pro affiliate, making nine appearances for the team in 2022 and regularly training with the first team.

Miller was introduced to the beautiful game by his mother Christy, who played soccer through high school. Prior to joining the Dynamo Academy, he played youth soccer for Eclipse Soccer Club (which merged into RISE SC in 2017) under former director Eddie Edwards. Miller attended Ridge Point High School in Missouri City his freshman year before switching to online school with the Academy. Additionally, his younger brother is currently on the golf team at Ridge Point High School.

Looking back at Miller’s first two seasons at UVA, the defender earned ACC All-Freshman honors and College Soccer News Third Team Freshman All-American recognition after starting 15 matches, the most starts of any UVA freshman in 2022. Miller scored a game-winner against No. 10 Pittsburgh for his first collegiate goal and tied for the most points among UVA freshmen with five (two goals and one assist).

The defender’s sophomore season saw him start all 18 matches he appeared in, as the Cavaliers finished with an 11-4-4 (WLD) overall record and a 5-2-1 (WLD) conference record. He recorded two assists, including one in a 2–1 victory over the University of Pittsburgh, and averaged 66 minutes per game.
