HOUSTON (May 16, 2025) – Houston Dynamo FC travel for a Texas Derby matchup versus FC Dallas on Saturday, May 17, as part of MLS Rivalry Week. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. CT at Toyota Stadium, and fans can stream the match via MLS Season Pass on Apple TV.
The Dynamo are coming off a midweek victory after defeating Minnesota United FC 2-0 at Shell Energy Stadium on Wednesday. Defenders Felipe Andrade and Pablo Ortiz each scored their first MLS goals during their first-career MLS starts, while the team also earned their fifth clean sheet of the season. Andrade’s performance earned him MLSSoccer.com Team of the Matchday honors.
Notably, Wednesday night marked the second match in Dynamo history where two players scored during their first-career MLS starts. The first occasion came on April 6, 2008, when Geoff Cameron and Franco Caraccio scored versus FC Dallas.
Two lineup notes for this weekend are that defenders Franco Escobar and Femi Awodesu will be available for Saturday’s match after serving suspensions. Escobar returns after serving his two-match suspension for yellow card accumulation and receiving a red card during Houston’s match at LAFC, while Awodesu returns after serving a suspension for a red card he received versus Seattle Sounders FC.
Dallas currently sits tenth in the Western Conference standings with 16 points and a 4-4-4 (WLD) record. The team only has one victory over its previous six matches, holding a 1-2-3 (WLD) record during that stretch. Dallas heads into Saturday’s match following a 1-1 home draw versus Real Salt Lake last weekend, with Anderson Julio scoring the team’s lone goal to level the match in the 53rd minute. Peter Musa leads the team’s attack with three goals and assists in regular season play.
This fixture marks the 56th Texas Derby in all competitions. Dallas currently holds a slight 16-13-20 (WLD) record advantage over Houston in the all-time series in regular season play. However, over the course of those meetings, President of Soccer, and then goalkeeper, Pat Onstad still holds the regular season series record for victories in the Texas Derby with seven. FC Dallas does not hold an individual regular season series record other than losses and goals allowed.
The Dynamo next travel to another in-state rival for a Round of 16 U.S. Open Cup match versus Austin FC on Wednesday, May 21. Kickoff is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. CT, and fans can watch the match live via Paramount+.
