THE WIN:

  • Advanced the Dynamo to the Round of 16 for the fourth consecutive year.
  • Improved Houston’s all-time record in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup to 13-11-1 overall and 10-5-0 at home.


TEAM NOTES:

  • The 5-0 scoreline was the largest margin of victory in Dynamo U.S. Open Cup history. Houston previously recorded 4-0 wins over San Antonio FC in 2016 and the Charleston Battery in 2009.
  • The Dynamo had two players each score two goals in the same game for the first time in the club’s U.S. Open Cup history.
  • Six players made their Dynamo debuts in the match: DF Conor Donovan, MF John Montaño, FW Aldo Quintanilla, DF Manny Padilla, MF Todd Wharton and MF Matías Zaldívar.

INDIVIDUAL PLAYER NOTES:

  • MF Memo Rodriguez became the fourth Dynamo player to record a brace in Open Cup play and the first since FW Mauro Manotas did so in the Round of 16 vs. Sporting Kansas City on June 29, 2016.
  • Rodriguez scored his second and third career goals in U.S. Open Cup play. He scored his first in the 55th minute when he buried a left-footed shot into the lower right corner to put Houston up 1-0 and netted his second on a penalty kick in the 70th minute.
  • Rodriguez was in the starting lineup for the second time in the 2018 season across all competitions and for the fourth time in his career in U.S. Open Cup play.
  • FW Aldo Quintanilla became the fifth Dynamo player to record a brace in Open Cup play, following MF Memo Rodriguez, who did so earlier in the game. FW Mauro Manotas did so in the Round of 16 vs. Sporting Kansas City on June 29, 2016; Geoff Cameron had a brace on July 7, 2009 in a 4-0 win over the Charleston Battery in the Quarterfinals; and Alejandro Moreno had a brace in a 4-2 win over the Carolina Dynamo on August 2, 2006 in the Round of 16.
  • Quintanilla scored his first goal for the Dynamo when he buried a right-footed shot in the 68th minute.
  • Quintanilla made his Dynamo debut tonight, starting at the top of Houston’s 4-3-3 lineup.
  • MF Matías Zaldívar scored just nine minutes into his Dynamo debut. He came on for MF Luis Gil in the 79th minute and scored in the 88th.
  • GK Chris Seitz made his 12th start in the U.S. Open Cup and his first Open Cup start with the Dynamo.
  • Seitz earned his ninth career win in Open Cup play and his first with the Dynamo.
  • Seitz wore the captain’s armband for the first time with the Dynamo.
  • FW Arturo Alvarez recorded two assists in the game. He is now just one assist shy of the club career record in Open Cup play. John Michael Hayden holds the record with three assists in five career Open Cup appearances.
  • Alvarez made his 10th career start in the U.S. Open Cup, his first for the Dynamo, and his second for the club in the 2018 season across all competitions. 
  • MF Luis Gil recorded an assist when he set up FW Aldo Quintanilla’s goal in the 68th minute.
  • Gil made his second start with the Dynamo across all competitions, his seventh career start in Open Cup play overall and his first for Houston this evening.
  • MF Eric Bird made his third start in U.S. Open Cup play for the Dynamo and his fourth appearance in the U.S Open Cup.
  • DF Conor Donovan made his second career U.S. Open Cup start and his first start and appearance for the Dynamo across all competitions. He also started one Open Cup game for Orlando City SC in 2015.
  • DF Alejandro Fuenmayor made his U.S. Open Cup debut and his ninth appearance and eighth start for the Dynamo across all competitions.
  • DF Kevin Garcia played in his fourth U.S. Open Cup match and made his ninth appearance for the Dynamo this evening.
  • MF John Montaño made his Dynamo debut when he came on for MF Memo Rodriguez in the 82nd minute.
  • DF Manny Padilla made his Dynamo debut tonight.
  • DF Philippe Senderos made his debut in U.S. Open Cup play when he came on for DF Alejandro Fuenmayor in the 61st minute.
  • MF Todd Wharton started in his Dynamo debut.
