Groom Best XI

Two Houston Dash players were named to the NWSL Challenge Cup Best XI pres. by Google, the National Women’s Soccer League announced at halftime of this afternoon’s Championship match presented by Budweiser.

Forward Rachel Daly and midfielder Shea Groom each earned recognition for their performances in leading the Dash to Championship match. The Best XI was determined by a vote from players, coaches, media and fans, with fans, media and coaches each accounting for 20 percent of the vote with the players’ vote making up 40 percent of the tally.

Daly entered today’s Championship match tied for the tournament Golden Boot with three goals and an assist through Houston’s first six matches. The England international and Dash co-captain was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player on Saturday evening.

Groom came into the championship with two goals and an assist in the tournament. The Texas A&M alumna joined the Dash in the offseason and immediately established herself as a spark in Houston’s attack playing in the center of the pitch.

With two players in the Best XI, Houston was tied with the Chicago Red Stars and Portland Thorns for the second-most of any team. Only the North Carolina Courage, with four, had more players named to the squad.
