Shell Energy Stadium to host international friendly between Guatemala and Venezuela

HOUSTON (Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2024) - The Guatemala and Venezuela Men’s National Teams will take the field at Shell Energy Stadium on Sunday, March 24 for an international friendly, JA Masters Events announced today.

Tickets will be available on Friday, Feb. 9 on SeatGeek, the official ticketing partner of Houston Dynamo Football Club.

Guatemala returns to Shell Energy Stadium after facing the Canadian Men’s National Team in group play during the 2023 Concacaf Gold Cup. The doubleheader was one of two sold-out match dates for Shell Energy Stadium and Guatemala earned a point to begin group play. La Bicolor shifts its focus to preparations for the upcoming Concacaf Qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Guatemala open Group E play on June 5 against the Dominican Republic.

Venezuela will open the year with this match prior to participating in the 2024 Copa America beginning with group matches against Ecuador, Mexico and Jamaica. La Vinotinto closed the year with a five-match unbeaten streak in the Conmebol Qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Venezuela defeated Chile, Paraguay and earned key points against Brazil and Peru. They closed the year in fourth place and look to build on their point tally later this year when qualifiers resume with matches against Bolivia, Uruguay and Argentina.

Venezuela earned a victory in the last meeting between these two teams, a 1-0 triumph on June 18, 2023, in Connecticut. Yangel Herrera scored the lone goal, and the midfielder is having a breakout campaign for Girona FC, who currently sit at the top of the La Liga table in Spain.
