To commemorate the 10th season of Houston Dynamo soccer, we are counting down the Top 10 moments in Houston Dynamo history as voted on by the fans leading up to our 10th Season Celebration on Oct. 18 against the Seattle Sounders (TICKETS). Next up is No. 6:

When the Dynamo moved to the Eastern Conference in 2011 a rivalry emerged with Sporting Kansas City, who were beginning their emergence as one of the top clubs in MLS. The teams met in the Eastern Conference Final in 2011, with the Dynamo upsetting top-seeded SKC 2-0 in Kansas City, adding even more juice to the series.

As the 2012 playoffs rolled around, it seemed like destiny that they should meet once again in the Eastern Conference Semifinals. Houston was once again the underdogs, sneaking into the playoffs as the fifth seed and winning the wild card match against the Chicago Fire. Kansas City, meanwhile, finished atop the East and just three points off the Supporters’ Shield.

Eighteen minutes into the first leg at BBVA Compass Stadium, Adam Moffat changed the outlook of the series. The Scotsman unleashed a half-volley from 30 yards out that sped past goalkeeper Jimmy Neilsen into the upper corner to send the 20,000+ on hand into a frenzy. The teams went back and forth throughout the match with SKC trying to get an all-important road goal. But Calen Carr provided a cross for Will Bruin to touch home in the 75th minute to give the Dynamo a two-goal lead heading into the second leg in Kansas City.

The Dynamo gave up one goal on the road in the second leg, but the defense held strong against a Sporting onslaught to preserve a 2-1 aggregate victory over their playoff rivals.
