The Houston Dynamo have signed free agent midfielder Ricardo Clark, it was announced today. Per team and league policy, terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Since leaving the Dynamo at the end of the 2009 season, Clark played for Eintracht Frankfurt of the German second division through February, when he was loaned to Stabæk Fotball of the Norwegian first division. Clark was released from his contract with Eintracht Frankfurt in late July.

“We’re happy to see Ricardo back on our team,” said Dynamo head coach Dominic Kinnear. “He’s been a great player for us in the past and will be a great player when he returns. In my opinion, he’s one of the better midfielders in the league and the country. Because of that, he is a great addition to the Dynamo.”

A cornerstone of Houston’s 2006 and 2007 championship teams, Clark, a member of the 2006 MLS Best XI, scored seven goals in 97 games played for the Dynamo between 2006 and 2009. Additionally, Clark has been capped 34 times by the U.S. men’s national team, tallying a total of three goals in all competitions.

“I’m very happy to have Ricardo back with the Dynamo,” said Dynamo president Chris Canetti. “We were sorry to see him go after the 2009 season. He was an integral part of our team’s success and one of our most popular players. He will be a strong addition to the club and is a good mid-summer pick-up.”

Clark’s first game with the club is expected to be this Friday, when the Dynamo take on the New York Red Bulls at Red Bull Arena. Kickoff for that match, which will be nationally-televised on NBC Sports, is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT.
